My pet is older, is it too late to have them spayed or neutered?

No, it is never too late. It is commonly believed that older pets cannot get spay or neuter surgery, but as long as your pet is a good candidate for surgery they can be spayed or neutered.

Why should I consider spay or neuter surgery for my pet?

The number one reason as to why pet owners choose to spay and neuter their pets is to prevent unwanted pregnancies. There are other benefits to performing this surgery.

• It prevents prostate, ovarian cancer, breast cancer and uterine infections. Pets that aren’t spayed or neutered are at a risk of developing these illnesses when they get older.
• Other procedures can be performed during surgery. For example, our veterinarians can perform microchipping, hernia repair and dental cleanings on the same day your pet is “fixed”.
• It causes better behaviours and mannerisms in your pet. The heat cycle makes male pets more aggressive (e.g. spraying and urinating to mark territory). Females are more likely to stray and roam about in order to procreate when they are not spayed.
